Assembly and User Instructions for the Mounting Kit for ZWO ASIAIR and EAF Belt Drive for the Askar SQA55 Telescope

The mounting kit for Askar SQA55 can be assembled in around 15min. Please use this guide before purchasing as well to see how optional parts of the kit can be used.

Despite the telescope itself, ZWO EAF, ASIAIR and the parts of the kit, you will need 3mm, 2.5mm and 2mm hex screwdrivers, whereas the 2mm screwdriver is only needed to place the pulley on the EAF. Keep in mind that the new ZWO EAF have a thinner (4mm) axis.

On all assembly steps, keep it mind that we work on an optical instrument: do not tighten the screws too much. This guide mentions the use screws and other fasteners for reference purposes, and for those customers who bought a download version of the kit. If you bought the printed version of the kit, all screws and fasteners are included.

We start with the holder for ASIAIR. Both ASIAIR and EAF holders use identical mounting on the sides of the telescope tube. We use two M4 14mm total height, flat-head screws (DIN 7991) for this.

ASIAIR will be put into this slot and held by a clip. Mounting of this clip defines how ASIAIR will be mounted in your setup.

Try first what fits your needs best. You can change this later as well.

We proceed with the orientation when ASIAIR is mounted with the antenna looking towards the stars. The clip is mounted on ASIAIR with two M4 6mm total height, flat-head screws (DIN 7991).

Two M3 8mm total height, flat head screws (DIN 7991) are used to mount the clip on the holder.

EAF sits on the left side. The EAF frame and holder group is usually shipped pre-assembled. We mount it on the main holder with two M3 6mm total height, flat-head screws (DIN 7991).

This pre-assembled group is placed on the accessory plate on the left side of the scope.

We use the same screws as with the ASIAIR holder on the right side: two M4 14mm total height, flat head screws (DIN 7991).

The belt sits directly on the focus ring of the telescope. Before this step, mount the pulley on the axis of the EAF. Here, you will need the 2mm hex screwdriver.

The tension of the belt is controlled by the thumb screw on the EAF frame. Do not apply too tension here and remove tension when not using the kit for a longer time.

Finished!

The kit is available under this link in the Photastro shop. When ordering the kit, you can add an accessory plate which can be attached to ASIAIR Plus.
